Trans Pennine Trail Sponsored Cycle !
26th--28th March, 2005
What an event!
Six of us set off bright and early Saturday morning, cycling the empty streets of Hull and then the suburbs of Hessle before setting off down the Hessle Foreshore track, the Trans-Pennine Trail proper.
By the time we reached Selby the weather had worsened from grey skies to persistent drizzle. The Trail twists and turns, taking us through a disused airfield, country roads, over railway tracks. Paddy pushes us on even though evening falls. We finally reach Doncaster, having clocked up 80 miles in one day, through a variety of terrain, wet, damp, muddy and ready for much hot water!
Setting off from Doncaster, before long we are going cross country, and approaching the Pennines. Someone else needs to write this bit cos I bailed out ! Fast forward a day, and the four hardy souls who made it all the way came off the trail by a bridge over the Mersey west of Warrington.
Phew-ee! Well done all who survived - even though I didn't!
I managed over 100 miles but then my legs went on strike. However, people are being really generous and sponsorship is rolling in. Many thanks to Paddy and Yvonne, Tammy, Huw, Benjie and Arthur.
A special thankyou to Mark, whose chain broke (!) enabling me to retire gracefully, very wet, muddy and tired. Well done, everyone!
