Martin J Deane
for Hull North

The Dales Primary School, Hull North
Wednesday 13th April

Martin Deane visited The Dales primary, North Bransholme this week.

Meeting with headteacher Maureen Spencer, he was extremely impressed by the way the world is brought into the school.

Year 6 teacher, Lynda Garton, is only just back from Ecuador, and tying in with that on the day was an experience of Colombian music brought into the school by  music teacher Mr Cook.

Last year Mrs Spencer and Mrs Bolton had travelled to Sierra Leone, Hull's twin city in Africa, and a headteacher from there had visited The Dales.

"It's this sort of experience that makes our school different--that makes it an oasis in this part of Hull. The parents here feel so let down, again and again. The threat of closure is another kick in the teeth for them."

The Hands Off Demo will take place on May 12th, at the Guildhall, Hull, the day the Cabinet meets to discuss the closures.

The Dales is one of 9 schools threatened with complete closure by Labour dominated Hull City Council.

Green Party policy is to protect and strengthen the public services, especially primary  schools. Small class sizes and smaller schools have been shown to be beneficial for education.
